INSTRUCTIONS

All our partnership scholarships require students to apply for non-binding “early action” at the colleges of their choice.  This allows our college and university partners time to make acceptance and financial aid decisions in a timely manner.  All partnership scholarship applicants must also complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form (and in some cases the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile – check with your specific college for this requirement) and forward this information to their college choices.  This information about a student’s acceptance status and financial aid is then shared with the Deeley Foundation before making our final scholarship awards.

All scholarship applications must be submitted using this form.  The deadline for submitting applications is December 31st.  Any applications received after midnight on December 31st will NOT be considered.

All personal information should be entered using the form fields below.  Essays can be entered into the application either by typing the essay directly into the box provided or by using “cut and paste functions” to insert an essay from Microsoft Word or other word processors.  After your application is completed, please remember to click on the “Send” button at the end of the application.

Your completed application will then be electronically sent to the scholarship committee, and an acknowledgement of its receipt will be sent to the email address provided in your application within 24 hours.  In addition, an electronic copy of your submitted application will be sent to your email address.  If you have no email address, then you will be notified by phone at the number provided. If you do not receive a confirmation within 5 days, no application was received on your behalf – contact your guidance office immediately.

If you wish to submit additional information supporting your application (e.g., poems, newspaper or literary magazine articles, videos of cultural or other activities, etc.) to The  Thomas and Elsie Deeley Foundation, please forward this information to our email address: [email protected].

If you have any questions about the scholarship, please feel free to contact us at the email address above.

Essay #3: The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did you deal with it? What were you hoping to accomplish and what would you have done differently, if anything? How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?

Essay #4: Imagine it is the year 2055 and you have just completed an interview with your local news media because of your recent successes. Show how the media would report your interview by providing a transcript of the interview.

    RECOMMENDATIONS AND TRANSCRIPTS

In addition to the above information, two recommendations are required. At least one of these recommendations must be from one of your high school instructors.

The St. Paul's Guidance Department will automatically forward copies of the recommendations from faculty and staff and academic transcripts used for your college applications directly to The Thomas and Elsie Deeley Foundation. When you submit an application and receive an email confirming receipt of your application, a copy of this email is also sent to your Guidance Department. After receiving this confirming email, your Guidance Department forwards copies of your recommendations and academic transcripts directly to the Deeley Foundation via electronic means.

If you wish to submit recommendations from other sources, please forward them to either the email or postal address above.

We strongly recommend that all students complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Forms and the CSS (College Scholarship Service) Profile Forms. Completion of these forms is required for those wishing to be considered for scholarships from our partner colleges and universities.

Please note that not every school uses both forms and applicants should check the specific requirements for the colleges/universities to which they are interested in applying.
